A member of Congress since replacing Randy Tate, Smith has been a vocal advocate on various federal matters and shared his perspectives on recent policy changes by President Trump.

On April 11, 2025, Rep. Adam Smith expressed his disapproval of President Trump's decision to terminate the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities Program. In his tweet, Smith highlighted the program's importance for disaster preparedness, noting, "Our state will lose tens of millions of dollars helping us safely prepare for natural disasters, like the bomb."

Later on the same day, Smith raised concerns regarding the Social Security Administration's communication strategies. He criticized the administration's move to disseminate public information solely through the platform X, owned by Elon Musk. In his tweet, Smith asserted, "The SSA is planning to eliminate press releases and dear colleague letters and instead deliver messages exclusively through X."

In a separate post on April 11, Smith reflected on the historical significance of the Elementary and Secondary Education Bill signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson 60 years ago. He observed that this bill has aided millions of low-income children throughout the nation. Smith noted, "All of that work will be wiped out by Donald Trump and RFK."

Adam Smith, 57, born in Washington, D.C. in 1965, holds a Bachelor of Arts from Fordham University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Washington. Prior to his current congressional role, he served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Currently residing in Bellevue, Washington, Smith continues to engage actively in legislative matters.
