In a tweet dated March 12, 2025, Rep. Smith shared his concerns about potential impacts of proposed Medicaid cuts by Republicans on residents of Washington state. "I heard from Julie in Seattle about how Republicans' proposed cuts to Medicaid could have a real impact on Washingtonians."

Later that day, Rep. On March 13, 2025, Rep. Smith commemorated the fifth anniversary of Breonna Taylor's death at the hands of police officers. He emphasized the importance of her memory and advocated for continued efforts towards effective law enforcement reforms. "It’s been five years since Breonna Taylor was senselessly killed by a police officer... This must never happen again and we must remain committed to pursuing effective reforms in our law enforcement."
