Renton Mayor Armondo Pavone earns Certificate of Municipal Leadership from 

Association of Washington Cities

The certificate recognizes elected officials who strive for excellence in serving their constituents through 

participation in advanced conferences and trainings

RENTON, WA – City of Renton Mayor Armondo Pavone has earned a Certificate of Municipal Leadership (CML) from the Association of Washington Cities (AWC). Kristi Rowland, Renton’s Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, presented the award at Monday night's Renton City Council meeting. Rowland also serves as the current President of the Washington City/Council Management Association and on the Association of Washington Cities board.

“Being a city leader in Washington is a complex job,” said Deanna Dawson, CEO of AWC. “Through our Certificate of Municipal Leadership program, we are providing our local elected officials with the knowledge they need to effectively operate within the law, plan for the future, secure and manage funds, foster strong relationships, and work to build more equitable communities.”

AWC’s Certificate of Municipal Leadership recognizes mayors and councilmembers who strive for excellence by attending conferences and trainings, serving their community, and developing leadership skills. Mayor Pavone completed more than 30 hours of training and attended at least one workshop in each of the five competency areas:

  • Roles, responsibilities, and legal requirements

  • Public sector resource management

  • Community planning and development

  • Effective local leadership

  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion

Mayor Pavone is in the fourth year of his first term as mayor. He earned an appointment to the Sound Cities Association (SCA) Board in February 2023, serves as an Executive Member on the Puget Sound Regional Council, is on the Valley Communications Center (VCC) Board, is an SCA Alternate for the Regional Policy Committee, and serves on the Administrative Board for SCORE (South Correctional Entity).

Mayor Pavone served six years on the Renton City Council from 2014-2019, serving as Council President in 2017 and on the Renton Regional Fire Authority Board. His volunteer work includes roles with Communities In Schools of Renton-Tukwila, the Renton Regional Community Foundation Board, and Renton Rotary.
