Rep. Adam Smith, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington's 9th district since 1997, recently shared his perspectives on economic policies and upcoming events through a series of tweets.

On February 19, 2025, Smith criticized former President Donald Trump's economic plan. He stated that it involves cutting taxes for the wealthy, increasing national debt, and reducing programs for low-income individuals such as Medicaid. Smith described Trump as "just your typical billionaire Republican." "Trump’s economic plan isn’t any better. Cut taxes for the rich, drive the debt even higher and slash programs for the poor and working class like Medicaid. Trump is just your typical billionaire Republican."

Later that day, he announced an event organized by his office: a Congressional Tech Fair scheduled for March 1 at Mercer Island Library. The event will include congratulating Congressional App Challenge participants and winners, hosting a panel discussion with local tech leaders, and discussing STEM education initiatives. "On Saturday, March 1, my office will be hosting a Congressional Tech Fair at the Mercer Island Library. Starting at noon, we will congratulate our Congressional App Challenge applicants and winners, host a panel discussion from local tech leaders, and talk about STEM education… https://t.co/9L0cscSdnD https://t.co/JFTwfWmpIe"

In another tweet on February 19, Smith highlighted what he sees as the country's most significant economic challenge: wealth concentration. He warned that Trump and Republicans are poised to exacerbate this issue significantly. "The concentration of wealth in this country is the greatest economic challenge we face. Trump and the Republicans are about to make it trillions of times worse."
