Rep. Adam Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Washington's 9th district since 1997, has taken to social media to express his concerns regarding the actions of the Trump administration. Through a series of tweets on February 11, 2025, Smith addressed issues ranging from oversight of humanitarian assistance to the legality of dismantling governmental agencies.

In a tweet posted at 18:50 UTC, Rep. Smith criticized President Trump's attempts to dismantle USAID. He referenced a report by @USAID_OIG that highlights the impact on oversight of humanitarian assistance due to what he describes as "Donald Trump's ignorance." He noted that "The President is attempting to dismantle USAID, but what exactly does that mean? @USAID_OIG released a report detailing how oversight of humanitarian assistance has been impacted due to Donald Trump's ignorance."

Later that day, at 21:51 UTC, Smith accused the Trump-Musk administration of acting illegally by breaking agreed contracts. He stated succinctly in his tweet: "The Trump-Musk administration is acting illegally. Full stop. They're breaking contracts that we agreed to."

At 22:18 UTC, Rep. Smith further commented on President Trump's efforts to dismantle governmental agencies without congressional oversight. He asserted that such actions are illegal and detrimental to American students, stating: "President Trump cannot single-handedly dismantle the Department of Education, or other governmental agencies for that matter, without congressional oversight."
