Rep. Adam Smith, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district, has expressed concerns regarding former President Donald Trump's actions and policies in recent tweets. Known for his tenure beginning in 1997 after replacing Randy Tate, Smith continues to be an active voice in legislative matters.
On February 4, 2025, Rep. Adam Smith tweeted about his distrust of Donald Trump, highlighting an issue concerning Elon Musk's DOGE committee. He stated, "If one thing is clear, it's that we can't trust Donald Trump. I joined fellow Ranking Members to demand information from the Administration about Elon Musk his DOGE committee's access to your private data."
The following day, on February 5, Smith announced his support for the Lady Liberty Act via Twitter. He mentioned signing on as an original cosponsor to this legislation led by Gerry Connolly. The tweet read: "Last week, I signed on to @GerryConnolly’s Lady Liberty Act as an original cosponsor. This legislation would require the president to set a goal of admitting at least 125,000 refugees a year." He criticized Trump's stance on refugee admission and pledged continued advocacy for vulnerable populations.
Later that same day, Rep. Smith criticized President Trump's proposed policies towards Palestinians and Gaza through another tweet: "Rather than seeking ways to ease the humanitarian crisis and work towards long-term peace, the Commander-in-Chief recklessly proposed we forcibly displace 2 million Palestinians." He expressed disapproval of what he described as reckless proposals that undermine efforts toward a two-state solution.
