Rep. Adam Smith reflects on international events and healthcare enrollment

Rep. Adam Smith, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Washington's 9th district, recently shared his thoughts and activities through a series of tweets. Born in Washington, D.C., and residing in Bellevue, Smith has been in Congress since 1997 after succeeding Randy Tate. He is an alumnus of Fordham University and the University of Washington.

On January 27, 2025, Rep. Smith commemorated International Holocaust Remembrance Day by remembering the six million victims of the Holocaust. He emphasized the importance of learning from this historical tragedy and confronting hate in daily life: "Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, where we remember the six million victims of the Holocaust. It’s always important to remember the lessons of this mass tragedy and confront hate in our every day lives."

Earlier that day, he celebrated India’s Republic Day with the Indian Consul General in Seattle. Reflecting on India's 76 years since adopting its Constitution, he expressed optimism about future partnerships between India and the United States: "Yesterday in Seattle I celebrated India’s Republic Day with the Indian Consul General. It’s been 76 years since the adoption of India’s Constitution, and I look forward to seeing the next 76 years of partnership between the U.S. and India."

Later on January 27, Rep. Smith highlighted record enrollment numbers for Affordable Care Act plans during Washington's open enrollment period. He noted that there are now 50,000 new customers with health or dental plans on Washington Healthplanfinder: "Washington saw record enrollment in Affordable Care Act plans this year during the open enrollment period. There are 50,000 new customers with a health or dental plan on Washington Healthplanfinder, joining the 308,000 Washingtonians who will receive coverage based on federal tax…"
