With Daylight Saving Time beginning at 2 a.m. this Sunday, March 12th, Emergency Management is encouraging you to not only set your clocks but to also check your stocks.
This twice-yearly time change is a great time to check the stock in your emergency preparedness kit for items that may be missing or expired. If you don’t have a disaster preparedness kit, now is a great time to create one. Below are some main items needed in your kit:
· A minimum three-day supply of water with one gallon of water per person per day
· A minimum three-day supply of non-perishable food
· Flashlights and batteries
· Manual/hand-operated can opener (in case the power goes out)
· Emergency NOAA Radio
· Prescription drugs, sanitary supplies, and diapers
· Pet food, water, and supplies
· Important papers
Now is also a good time to replace the batteries in your home’s smoke alarms, and carbon monoxide detectors. If your smoke alarm is 10 or more years old, it’s time to replace it.
