The SeaTac and Burien Police, in partnership with the King County Sheriff’s Office, will bring back its Community Police Academy Thursday nights from March 16 – May 11.
The last Community Police Academy was before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Anyone 18 and older who is a SeaTac resident or works in the city can participate in this program. The Community Police Academy includes nine sessions designed to increase the understanding between residents and their police departments through public education.
Participants will go behind the scenes with specialized units including helicopter and bomb disposal groups. A meeting with K9 officers is also expected.
All applicants must pass a criminal history background check. Classes are held on Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Graduates of the Community Police Academy gain a better understanding of the criminal justice system and an appreciation for the many challenges facing law enforcement. This knowledge will help community members better assist officers and increase safety in their neighborhoods.
If you have questions or want to participate in the Community Police Academy, please contact Burien Police CSO Michiko Wilson at michiko.wilson@kingcounty.gov or 206-263-2573.
