Recycling can get tricky, sometimes materials that look and feel like they should be recyclable are not.
Five basic items can and should be recycled: hard plastics, glass, cardboard, paper and metal.
Things like soda cans and aluminum cans (with the lids partially attached) are perfect for the recycling bin. Make sure any recycled items are clean and dry before disposing.
Amazon plastic envelope packaging is a soft plastic and cannot be recycled. Paper mailers lined with plastic and metal hangers are not recyclable. Thermal paper receipts, which are shiny and feel like plastic, are not recyclable. Candy wrappers must be thrown in the garbage. An easy rule to remember is that anything that goes in the recycling bin should be at least 3 inches by 3 inches.
There are some items that can be recycled but only if disposed of properly at a center. Metal screws, nuts and bolts along with styrofoam must be dropped off (like at one of our recycling events).
