SeaTac hosts volunteer appreciation lunch with Mayor, Councilmembers in attendance

The City hosted the annual volunteer appreciation Oct. 10 at the SeaTac Community Center.

This event is typically annual but was cancelled in 2020 and 2021  because of the pandemic. However, staff wrote and sent thank you cards  during those years to show the City’s

gratitude for all of our  volunteer’s hard work.

This year, event attendees totaled 65 comprising of volunteers,  staff, Mayor Jake Simpson, Councilmembers Peter Kwon and Iris Guzmán,  and City Manager Carl Cole. The City

Council and staff were thankful to  gather once again to show appreciation for the countless time and effort  given by volunteers.

The City sent out a little over 100 invitations this year to volunteers involved in city-sponsored opportunities

  • Arts, Culture and Library Advisory Board
  • Community Services Advisory Committee

  • Emergency HAM Radio Operators
  • Hotel/Motel Tax Advisory Committee

  • LEOFF I Disability Board
  • Planning Commission

  • Senior Citizen Advisory Committee
  • Senior Program

  • Community Center Sensory Garden
  • Sidewalk Advisory Committee
  • Sea-Tac Airport Round Table (Start)
  • Tree Board

  • Volunteers in Police Services
Parks Community Services and Programs Director Lawrence Ellis has  been the emcee of the event for decades and this year was no different.  He opened the event with lunch

followed by a list of volunteer programs.

Mayor Jake Simpson welcomed and thanked the volunteers for their dedication and service to the City.

Recreation Programs Specialist Linda Croasdill read the names of  senior program volunteers that had passed during the last two years and  remembered past senior program

supervisor Kathleen Cummings who also  passed with a moment of silence.

Executive Assistant Lesa Ellis read the names of volunteers with  milestone anniversaries of 5, 10 and 15 years. Mayor Simpson,  Councilmembers Kwon and Guzmán, and our

Community Outreach Strategist  Angel Taherazer delivered certificates to those in attendance.

City Manager Carl Cole expressed his gratitude to volunteers and did  the honors of pulling the names of four volunteers to receive gift  cards.

The program concluded with Community Events and Volunteer Coordinator  Jessica Ramirez spinning a wheel to give away the table centerpieces.
