The City implemented a new lighting policy last week that establishes a new aesthetic for lighting and provides guidance for staff and developers on the design, illumination and
installation of street light standards.
The standards cover street and pedestrian lighting within City right-of-way. This policy applies to all Public Works Capital Improvement Projects and all private development
installation of light poles within the City ROW.
The application of these standards will eventually reduce the variability in light poles throughout the City and create a more consistent streetscape that will help identify SeaTac.
SeaTac has designated two different lighting styles that will be applied to two different geographical areas within the City. Regulations for height, arm length and LED lights are
included.
“Special Areas” of the city include right-of-way located along International Boulevard, arterials and the area contained within the designated Urban Center Boundary. The Special
Areas will install decorative style lighting along both sides of the road that is reflective of a higher density, walkable urban area.
All “Other Areas” will install the decorative lighting, which is currently installed along South 166th Street and other new street improvements throughout the City.
