Highline School District issued the following announcement.
We are in search of families who are interested in collaborating on Highline’s very first curriculum on race and identity. This instruction is intended to prepare students to live and work with others in a diverse world by addressing identity and diversity, uncovering injustices and taking action.
Instruction on Race and Identity is part of School Board Policy 0010: Equity, Race and Identity, adopted by the School Board in November 2019. From preschool through grade 12, students learn key ideas from a variety of perspectives to understand why and how race and identity play a role in shaping our society. While this is not new in Highline, we have recently aligned this instruction with the Social Justice StandardsPDF download.
As part of developing this curriculum, we are forming an Advisory Council. The members will serve as co-authors and help recommend elements from the Social Justice StandardsPDF download that are most important to families.
