CITY OF MERCER ISLAND: Protest Events and Potential Weekend Traffic Impacts

City of Mercer Island issued the following announcement on June 12.

The City of Mercer Island is aware of two separate protest events being organized for this coming weekend. The City has not issued permits for these events due to the Governor’s restrictions on gathering, nor has it expressly sanctioned the events, however, staff are in contact with organizers in order to remain informed. The Police Department and other City staff will be standing by to ensure that general public safety and vehicle access are maintained. Details of these events may change at any time.

Friday, June 12

A march is planned at 12:00pm from Islander Middle School via Island Crest Way to Mercerdale Park. Organizers have indicated they intend to hold a 9-minute sit-in at the intersection of Island Crest Way and SE 40th Street.

Saturday, June 13

A march is planned at 2:00pm from Aubrey Davis Park (west side of the park) across the I-90 bridge foot/bike pathway. Organizers have indicated they will march to Seattle and return.
