City of Covington issued the following announcement on April 13.
The City has made the difficult decision to close Covington Community Park and the Gerry Crick Skate Park in their entirety until further notice due to disregard for social distancing, park signage and not observing closed areas.
The city originally had partially closed parks, marking off areas that are high traffic leading to group gatherings and impossible to keep sanitized (like playgrounds, courts, picnic shelters, etc). The hope was that signage and education would allow the parks to remain open, however, there is currently no safe way to ensure that park users will be protected from COVID-19 as park rules continue to be violated.
