Rep. Adam Smith, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington's 9th district since 1997, has expressed concerns over several pressing global issues through a series of tweets. Smith, who holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington, addressed topics ranging from extremist groups to humanitarian aid.

On February 3, 2025, Rep. Smith highlighted the threat posed by extremist groups and non-state actors in vulnerable regions. He stated that "Extremist groups and non-state actors have a higher likelihood of gaining influence in fragile countries and ungoverned spaces."

In another tweet on the same day, Smith raised alarm about access to nutrition programs for women and children. He noted that "Women and children cannot access nutrition programs, which puts their health and safety at risk. This includes 4.5 million children under the age of five just within the Congo alone."

Additionally, Rep. Smith criticized former President Trump's policy decisions regarding international aid funding. He pointed out that "Trump's freeze suspends funds to combat famine, provide access to clean water, and basic shelter to those around the world."
