The City of SeaTac often has openings on our citizen advisory committees, including the much-talked about Sidewalk Advisory Committee.
SeaTac residents often ask about adding sidewalks to local streets and improving existing sidewalks for better pedestrian access and safety. Adding sidewalks is usually wrapped up in a public works project with recommendations taken into account from the advisory committee.
The Sidewalk Advisory Committee makes recommendations to City Council related to funding, construction, site selection for sidewalks projects, added enhancements to a new or existing sidewalk project (like pedestrian level lighting, landscaping, traffic calming and other enhancements) and future maintenance of neighborhood sidewalks in the community. The committee ensures that the neighborhood sidewalk program meets the needs and goals of the community.
The committee has a work plan, which includes:
- Researching best practices of other jurisdictions and vet those ideas within the community
- Developing and maintaining a project identification ranking and selection process
- Finding innovative, community-based ideas through communication within the community
- Providing oversight of the program’s community outreach efforts
Joining a committee like this is a great way to have your voice heard in local government. Residents have a chance to help shape the future of the city with feedback and project ideas.
