Auburn School District issued the following announcement.
Dear ASD Families:
We have a short week as we take a couple of days for Thanksgiving Break on Thursday and Friday. My list of things to be thankful for is very long, but right near the top is I am thankful for such a supportive community. These many months have been challenging, but as a community we have come together in so many ways. I am so fortunate to live and work here.
I also am thankful for all of the ASD staff. Last week was American Education Week, a nationwide celebration of public education. Though this year looks different, we have staff working tirelessly every day to support our students and families. I am proud of the resilience, creativity and innovation staff have demonstrated. We have extremely dedicated staff throughout the district.
One of the ways we have been supporting the community is by providing meals. We will continue to provide meals this week. Please visit the ASD website for locations and times for meal distribution on Friday.
We want our students in school. We are planning for the day when we can start to bring students back. Next week we will ask middle school and high school families to indicate a preference to return in a hybrid model or continue in Distance Learning. We don’t have a return date yet, but we need to schedule second semester classes so we can return when advised by the health department. We will connect with elementary families at a later date.
The best way to get students back to school is to slow the spread of COVID-19. The community can help by wearing a mask, physical distancing and avoiding gatherings with people outside of your household. The sooner we can slow the spread of the virus, the sooner we can start to return to school.
Finally, I am thankful for you, our Auburn School District families. On a daily basis, I learn of the supports you provide and sacrifices you make to ensure the well-being and development of our precious children. Please take care, stay in good health, and be hopeful. We will emerge from this experience together and stronger.
I wish your family the best and hope you enjoy the break this week.
Sincerely,
Dr. Alan Spicciati
Superintendent
