CITY OF MERCER ISLAND: COVID-19 Cases Rising as "Indoor" Weather Arrives

Coldsnow

City of Mercer Island issued the following announcement on Oct. 30.

Data from the Washington State Department of Health show that case numbers in western Washington counties have climbed at an alarming rate, near or beyond previous peaks in some areas. Cases in King County have risen sharply upward since mid-September and health officials warn we may now be entering the “fall surge” which was anticipated with the rise in time spent indoors over the winter months.

Experts emphasize that measures taken in public are no longer enough, and we must all be very diligent in our personal lives to keep the virus from spreading further. Measures include:

  • Wear a mask, even with people you see regularly and in your smallest social circles and anytime you are using shared transportation, including while in your own vehicle with other people.
  • Keep gatherings small and hold them outside whenever possible.
  • Avoid any social gatherings indoors, but if you must participate, wear a mask and ensure windows and doors are open to maximize ventilation - learn more.
  • Wash or sanitize hands often and do not touch your face.
  • Stay home if you’re sick or if you’ve been exposed to COVID-19.
