Executive Constantine has released his 2021-2022 budget in an online video conference.
This budget includes expected expenditures for King County, which is now the 12th largest county in the country, by population. Included in this budget are decreased county job positions as a result of the economic effects of COVID-19.
About the budget, Executive Constantine said: “With the investments laid out in this budget, King County puts its money where its values are”.
Among the initiatives prioritized in the final budget is accommodations for displaced and adversely affected by COVID-19. This includes a 0.1% increase in sales tax, which will be used to fund permanent housing options for the chronically homeless in the county.
Also included in the budget are funding initiatives to achieve social justice and an increase in public health resources to treat patients of COVID-19.
The budget prioritizes community engagement and resources for those adversely affected by recent economic conditions, but still includes acknowledgements that revenue will be lower due to the hardship placed upon the region as a result of the pandemic.
