Rep. Adam Smith, representing Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently addressed concerns via social media about several actions and decisions implemented by the Trump administration. Smith, who has served since 1997, expressed his criticism of these policies in a series of posts.

On April 7, 2025, Rep. Smith highlighted an error made by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). “Trump’s Dept of Homeland Security sent an email to thousands of Ukrainians that their legal status was going to be revoked. Except, that email was sent by mistake. The Trump Administration and DHS must do better. Apologies after the fact aren’t enough.”

Following up on this matter on the same day, Smith advised individuals who might have received similar communications from DHS. “If you recently got a similar message from the Department of Homeland Security and are wondering if it’s legitimate, please contact our office.”

In another post on April 8, 2025, Smith joined his Democratic colleagues in a collective statement concerning potential threats to Medicare recipients due to Trump administration policies. “I signed onto a letter with 77 of my Democratic colleagues emphasizing the crushing impact that the Trump administration could have on Medicare recipients.”
