SeaTac Veterans Memorial Ceremony features moving speeches by Mayor Jake Simpson and Sergeant Jeffrey A. Guite

The annual Veterans Day Ceremony featured Mayor Jake Simpson and Sergeant Jeffrey A. Guite addressing a small crowd in front of the SeaTac

Memorial. Councilmembers Peter Kwon and Erin Sitterley were also in attendance.

The local Veterans Memorial honors military members of the past and present from every community and incorporates engraved tiles as a lasting way to

remember loved ones. The SeaTac memorial was originally dedicated in 2019.

“The very least we can do is have this memorial honoring some of these brave people,” Simpson said. “Some of these people have gone on to serve the

public by working at our City. Some have gone on to serve the public by working for our regional fire authority or sheriff’s department and I hope that this

memorial serves as a place for friends and family to come to reflect and honor the brave people here on these tiles.”

A color guard, wind ensemble and bag piper were also present to pay tribute to our veterans.

“What is a Veteran?” Sergeant Guite asked the crowd. “A veteran whether active duty, discharged or reserved is someone who at one point in his life

wrote a blank check  made payable to the United States of America for an amount of up to and including his or her life. That is an honor.”
