SeaTac Police to provide wheel locks for certain Kia, Hyundai models

After a large uptick in Kia and Hyundai thefts, SeaTac Police are offering free wheel locks for certain models.

Kia and Hyundai models are vulnerable to a specific type of car theft. Using a simple USB cable, a person can access the ignition and turn the cars on. Instructions on how to do this have spread far and wide on the internet, leading to a rise in thefts of such cars nationally. 

SeaTac has 60 wheel locks available to the public. These are available at the police counter during business hours. People will need to bring registration for the vehicle and an ID that matches. Limit of one per car. Please call the non-emergency line first before coming in to pick up a lock, 206-973-4900.

Locks will only be provided for the following models:

Hyundai:2015 – 2021 Accent, Elantra, Kona, Santa Fe, Sonata and Tucson2015 – 2018 Veloster

Kia:2015 – 2021 Forte, Optima, Rio, Sedona, Soul and Sportage2015 – 2016 Optima Hybrid and Sorento
