SeaTac Police presented crime statistics and information at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, which highlighted that total property crimes for the second quarter are less than the
first quarter of the year.
Quarter one includes January, February and March, quarter two includes April, May and June. In the first quarter there was a total of 663 property crimes, which includes
vandalism, burglary and auto thefts. In quarter two that number dipped to 582. Residential burglaries fell 77 percent in that time period. Auto thefts also fell by 22 percent.
Crimes against people increased slightly from quarter one to quarter two. These stats include cases of human trafficking, homicide and kidnapping. In quarter one there were a
total of 114 crimes compared to 140 this quarter. Efforts to combat human trafficking led to an increase in arrests in quarter two.
Last year King County saw the largest amount of overdose deaths in the last decade, over 700 people. So far the county has counted 459 deaths related to drug overdoses this
year with 10 reported deaths in SeaTac. Nine of these deaths were related to fentanyl.
Toward the end of the presentation, police highlighted community engagement efforts through National Night Out as well as discussed another office space in North SeaTac, which
will house its Community Engagement Officer and others. This office will be part of the Polaris Apartment development.
