WASHINGTON, D.C. – On May 29, 2023, Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash.), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement in recognition of Memorial Day.

“On Memorial Day, we solemnly honor the men and women in the armed forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The selfless service, sense of duty, and strength of courage of those who wear the uniform means every American and our country is more secure.

“We must never take for granted those willing to fight and die for our freedom and democratic ideals here at home and around the world, and we are reminded that our enduring gratitude should not only be expressed on this revered day.

“To all those who have laid their lives on the line for our country, and the loved ones of those who have served and paid the ultimate price, we say thank you today and always.”
