Rep. Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on August 31 and September 1, 2025, addressing concerns over economic policy and healthcare in the United States.

On August 31, Smith announced an upcoming event: “Virtual Town Hall August 31 2025 https://t.co/e2bFKmERbN”.

Later that same day, he criticized President Trump’s approach to tariffs and its impact on working-class Americans. In his post dated August 31, Smith stated: “President Trump yet again is doing nothing to help the American people financially, and keeps stamping random tariffs on good that the working-class will pay for. A third of our economy is already in a recession or at high risk, according to a chief economist. I’ve heard from”.

The following day, September 1, Smith expressed concern about rising healthcare costs and the potential loss of coverage for many residents in Washington state due to recent legislation: “Cost of health care continues to rise and because of the Big Ugly Bill, over 328,000 Washingtonians will lose Apple Health and many hospitals across the state are at risk of closing. This is impacting constituents throughout the nation, from Seattle to Erwin, Tennessee, and is”.

Adam Smith has represented Washington’s 9th District since replacing Randy Tate in Congress in 1997. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue at age 57 as of this writing, Smith graduated from Fordham University with a BA before earning his JD from the University of Washington.
