Rep. Adam Smith, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district, has recently taken to social media to express his views on various issues affecting his constituents and the nation. His statements cover topics ranging from immigration enforcement actions to fiscal policy and trade impacts.

On May 21, 2025, Rep. Smith commented on immigration enforcement under the current administration. He stated, “The Trump administration is terrorizing our community through a series of ICE arrests both in Kent and Seattle. Under this presidency, families are being torn apart, living in fear, and facing ongoing threats.” He warned that these actions would have “ripple effects throughout our state.”

Later that day, Rep. Smith shared his opposition to a proposed Republican budget plan. At an early morning session with the House Rules Committee, he voiced his concerns stating that “this bill will drastically increase our deficit, adding trillions to our nation’s debt.”

Additionally, Rep. Smith acknowledged a meeting with representatives from Washington Trade who visited his office in Washington D.C., discussing the repercussions of the current administration’s trade policies on their state. He expressed gratitude for their visit by saying “Thanks to @WashingtonTrade for stopping by my D.C. office to talk about how our state has felt the impacts of the President’s trade war.”

Rep. Adam Smith has been serving in Congress since 1997 after replacing Randy Tate and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C., he resides in Bellevue and holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
