On April 2, 2025, Smith thanked attendees of a recent town hall in Renton, Washington. He expressed gratitude, stating, “Thanks to the folks who came out to our Budget Town Hall this weekend in Renton.”
Later that day, Smith acknowledged a visit from the Washington Fire Chiefs to his office in Washington, D.C. He expressed appreciation for the discussion and reaffirmed his commitment to first responders by tweeting, “Thanks to @WAFireChiefs for making the trip to my D.C. office. I’m always here to help our state’s first responders, and I appreciate our conversation.”
Smith also commented on a decision by the Trump Administration regarding child care personnel. He criticized the firing of employees who ensure affordable and safe child care, specifically those impacting the Head Start program that supports over 15,000 low-income children. In a tweet, he stated, “Yesterday, the Trump Administration fired the employees who help make sure there are affordable, safe child care options across Washington State. This reckless move jeopardizes the Head Start program, which provides early child care for more than 15,000 low-income children and”
