Rep. Adam Smith, U.S. Congressman representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, recently shared updates on social media about his community engagement and political views.

On August 5, Smith posted about his visit to a University of Washington football practice at Husky Stadium. He wrote, “With college football kickoff just around the corner, I was happy to stop by @UW_Football morning practice at Husky Stadium today. Looking forward to this season. Go Dawgs!”

Later that day, Smith highlighted a meeting with local advocates concerned about retirement security. In his post from August 5, he stated, “Folks from Puget Sound Advocates for Retirement Action stopped by my district office today to discuss the need to protect Social Security and Medicare. This administration has hurt our country’s most vulnerable, including our retirees, but I’m working to ensure seniors have”

On August 6, Smith addressed concerns over press freedom in the United States. He commented on actions attributed to former President Donald Trump by saying, “Firing people who report the facts, suing media companies for coverage he doesn’t like, and forcing them to acquiesce to his message and his message alone. President Trump is attacking free speech.”

Smith has served as a member of Congress since replacing Randy Tate in 1997 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
