Rep. Adam Smith, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district, shared several thoughts on significant historical events and his ongoing engagement with the community through a series of tweets.
On May 18, 2025, Smith marked the anniversary of a landmark Supreme Court decision with his tweet: “On this day in 1954, the Supreme Court ruled that segregation in schools was unconstitutional through Brown v. Board of Education. This decision changed our nation’s education system for the better.”
Later that day, Smith emphasized his commitment to engaging with his constituents: “I spend a lot of time with folks in my community hearing how I can improve our district. There’s a lot of work to be done and I’m always here to listen to your thoughts.”
The following day, on May 19, 2025, he commemorated another pivotal moment in educational history: “On May 18, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson launched Project Head Start, an essential program supporting affordable, quality early childcare and education. Despite the Trump administration’s attack on the millions of kids who participate in Head Start, I remain committed to”
Smith has been serving Washington’s 9th District since replacing Randy Tate in 1997 after a tenure in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C., he resides in Bellevue and holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
