On March 16, 2025, Rep. Adam Smith announced his introduction of the Humans Over Private Equity (HOPE) for Homeownership Act alongside Senator Jeff Merkley. He stated that this legislation aims to curb hedge funds’ control over single-family homes as a measure against rising housing costs. “Two weeks ago, I introduced the Humans Over Private Equity (HOPE) for Homeownership Act alongside @senmerkley to put an end to hedge funds’ control on single-family homes. The price of housing is too high and we must crack down on corporate greed to make rent and single-family…”

Later that day, Smith encouraged high school students within the Ninth District to participate in the Congressional Art Competition. He highlighted that winning entries would be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year and include a trip to Washington, D.C., with submissions due by April 23. “The Congressional Art Competition is now open! Any high school students within the Ninth District may submit a design to potentially be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, along with a trip to Washington, D.C.”

In another post from March 16, Smith commemorated the founding of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1802. As Ranking Member of the Armed Services Committee, he expressed admiration for cadets’ service and anticipation for their future achievements.“On this day in 1802, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point was founded.”
