Rep. Adam Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, has used his social media platform to highlight issues ranging from immigration detention conditions to ongoing health crises and the release of investigative footage.
On December 17, 2025, Smith posted about his involvement with other Washington state lawmakers in addressing concerns at a local immigration facility: “I was proud to stand with members of the Washington state delegation to demand ICE provide answers about unacceptable conditions at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma. I am deeply concerned by reports that the facility lacks medical services, access to legal counsel,” he wrote.
Later that day, Smith criticized House Republican leadership for their handling of a health crisis, stating on December 17, 2025: “Speaker Mike Johnson and Republicans could have addressed this ongoing health crisis months ago. Instead, they chose to wait for the last minute.”
On December 18, 2025, Smith shared his participation in a media appearance regarding an incident involving a boat strike: “I joined MS Now to discuss releasing the video of the second boat strike.”
Smith has represented Washington’s 9th District in Congress since replacing Randy Tate in 1997 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
