Rep. Adam Smith, who has represented Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress since 1997, recently addressed several issues on his official social media account, including education and economic policy.
On November 17, 2025, Smith acknowledged the contributions of educators during American Education Week. He wrote, “Our schools shape the next generation of leaders, and it’s important we provide our education system with the tools it needs to succeed. During American Education Week, I want to recognize the teachers, faculty, staff, and families that help our young students every day.”
Later that same day, Smith criticized former President Donald Trump’s policies regarding their impact on consumer costs. In a post dated November 17, 2025, he stated: “Trump’s chaotic policies are driving up prices for energy, health care, and food.”
Smith also announced a virtual town hall event in a tweet posted on November 18, 2025: “Virtual Town Hall November 17 2025”.
Smith has served as the representative for Washington’s 9th District since replacing Randy Tate in 1997. Before his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue at age 57, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
