Rep. Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform this week to highlight legislative efforts and concerns on adoption, small business programs, and health care coverage.
On November 19, Smith acknowledged National Adoption Month and introduced recent legislative action: “November marks National Adoption Month, a time to bring more awareness to adoption and shine a light on adoptive families. I was proud to introduce the Protect Adoptees and American Families Act this year, which would provide long overdue citizenship to international adoptees who” (posted November 19, 2025).
Later that day, Smith expressed support for the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation: “I joined my colleagues in voicing strong support for the @USDOT’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program. Changes made by @SecDuffy jeopardize more than 50,000 small businesses nationwide. Undermining opportunities for minority- and women-owned firms will raise costs,” (posted November 19, 2025).
On November 20, Smith addressed rising health care costs affecting Americans: “In 2026, there’s a higher risk that more Americans will go uninsured. Medicare Part B premiums will increase by almost 10% and potentially risk the health care coverage of 64 million Medicare recipients. ACA marketplace coverage will also increase drastically in 2026, risking the” (posted November 20, 2025).
Smith has represented Washington’s 9th district since replacing Randy Tate in Congress in 1997 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C., he currently resides in Bellevue at age 57. He holds a BA from Fordham University (1987) and a JD from the University of Washington (1990).
