Rep. Adam Smith, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district, shared his views on various political and economic issues through a series of tweets on May 5, 2025.

In one tweet, Smith criticized former President Donald Trump for his interactions with law firms. He stated, “President Trump’s shakedown of law firms is the action of an authoritarian dictator and I applaud the law firms that have stood up to him.” He further mentioned his appearance on CNN’s OutFront to discuss these matters.

Later that day, Smith expressed gratitude towards attendees of the Ventures Roundtable in King County. He reaffirmed his dedication to supporting small businesses by tweeting, “Thanks to the folks who came to the Ventures Roundtable. I remain committed to supporting small businesses and supporting your work in King County.”

In another engagement with media outlets, Smith discussed economic concerns related to trade policies under Trump’s administration. He tweeted about this conversation stating, “I spoke with @NewsNation about how Trump’s chaotic tariff policies could have a detrimental impact on our economy.”

Adam Smith has been serving in Congress since 1997 after replacing Randy Tate. Prior to this role, he was a member of the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C., Smith now resides in Bellevue and holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
