Rep. Adam Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, recently shared updates on social media regarding Social Security policy, education equity, and community outreach.
On August 19, Smith posted about a conversation with a constituent regarding Social Security: “I spoke with Jackie about scrapping the cap on Social Security to preserve the benefits that my constituents have earned.”

Smith has represented Washington’s 9th district in Congress since replacing Randy Tate in 1997. Prior to his congressional service, he served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue at age 57, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
