Rep. Adam Smith, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, recently shared several updates via social media. The congressman has been vocal about housing affordability and legal challenges to presidential actions.

On May 5, 2025, Rep. Smith discussed his legislative initiative with a tweet stating: “In February, I introduced the Humans Over Private Equity (HOPE) for Homeownership Act. This legislation would put an end to hedge funds buying up single-family homes and would make housing more affordable in our country. We need more housing at a fair cost, and this bill will do.”

Later that day, he commented on ongoing legal issues involving the presidency by highlighting the role of state attorneys general: “As the President continues to violate the rule of law and Constitution, lawsuits from state attorney generals like @AGOWA remain incredibly important.”

Additionally, Rep. Smith reminded constituents of an upcoming event aimed at protecting individuals from scams and frauds: “REMINDER: My office is hosting a Protecting Yourself from Scams and Fraud Event on Tuesday, May 6 at 1:30 p.m. We will hear from guests from the Federal Trade Commission, Kent Police Department, and Kent Councilmember Boyd. I hope you can join us at the Kent Senior Activity.”

Adam Smith was born in Washington D.C., in 1965 but now resides in Bellevue. He graduated with a BA from Fordham University in 1987 and later earned a JD from the University of Washington in 1990.
