Rep. Adam Smith, U.S. Congressman representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, recently shared updates on his community engagement and policy concerns through a series of posts on social media.
On August 29, 2025, Smith reported on a meeting with education leaders in King County: “This morning, I held a Town Hall with local school district and education leaders in Renton to discuss policy concerns and issues they are facing in King County. Thanks to @PSESD for hosting and for everyone who joined.”
The following day, August 30, he highlighted a visit with healthcare professionals: “I met with @seattlechildren in Federal Way to discuss their plans for expanding services and reaching more families in the South Sound region.”
On August 31, Smith commented on national food assistance policy: “President Johnson signed the Food Stamp Act into law in 1964, making the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) permanent. Smith has served as a member of Congress since succeeding Randy Tate in 1997. Prior to his tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives, he was a member of the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
