Rep. Adam Smith, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th District since 1997, has recently shared his views and activities through a series of tweets. Smith, who previously served in the Washington State Senate and holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington, is actively engaging with issues ranging from federal budget concerns to public service recognition.

On May 8, 2025, Rep. Smith criticized the Republican budget proposal for its potential impact on essential programs like Medicaid. He expressed concern that it would “dramatically increase the budget by a couple trillion dollars” to fund tax cuts for wealthy Americans. “I spoke about this horrible policy on @NewsCentralCNN this morning,” he stated.

Later that day, Smith highlighted an interaction with Ashley Tong, a cadet at West Point hailing from his district. He mentioned her discussion with his office about her background and decision to serve in the military. He encouraged others interested in applying for U.S. Service nominations to learn more about the process: “Ashley Tong…spoke with my office about her roots in the Ninth District.”

Additionally, Rep. Smith recognized Public Service Recognition Week by extending gratitude to public servants within his district: “I wanted to take the time to thank all of our public servants across the Ninth District.”
