Rep. Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed economic and transparency issues in a series of posts on December 8, 2025.
In one post, Smith discussed his recent media appearance regarding government transparency: “I spoke with @CNN this weekend about why this administration won’t release the video of the second boat strike.” (December 8, 2025).
Later that day, he commented on rising consumer costs during the holiday season and attributed them to former President Trump’s economic policies: “Americans continue to grapple with increased costs due to Trump’s reckless economic policies, especially during the holiday season. American companies paid $1.2 billion in tariffs on toys, $409 million in tariffs on Christmas decorations, and $773 million in tariffs on speakers” (December 8, 2025). He also posted a separate link without additional commentary: “https://t.co/UzXWjbdo31” (December 8, 2025).
Smith has served as a member of Congress since replacing Randy Tate in 1997 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue at age 57, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
