Rep. Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on August 1 and 2, 2025, addressing economic concerns and his recent community engagement.

On August 1, Smith commented on national economic trends and presidential policy: “It’s August 1. The past three months have seen the weakest 3-month job growth period since the pandemic. Inflation has ticked up, and President Trump continues to haphazardly slap tariffs on countries around the world.

It’s been 193 days with Trump back in office, and the only https://t.co/nq4Xl8q1oy“.

Later that day, Smith shared details from a visit to a local Seattle organization: “I visited Union Gospel in Seattle to see their Hope Place facility and Woman and Children Enhanced Shelter. Thank you for showing me around and helping our community get the help they need. https://t.co/jbVAxh2h4b”.

On August 2, Smith addressed an action by President Trump involving a government official: “Donald Trump is firing a public servant because she accurately reported his weak jobs numbers.

Now he wants to replace her with a loyalist who’ll bend the truth to serve his agenda.

This isn’t about data — it’s about control. https://t.co/iXjTCkxtjO“.

Smith has represented Washington’s 9th district since replacing Randy Tate in 1997 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1965, Smith currently resides in Bellevue. He holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
