Rep. Adam Smith, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, has criticized President Trump and the Republican Party in a series of posts on October 6, 2025. Smith accused party leaders of partisanship and misleading statements regarding healthcare policy.
In his first post at 14:21 UTC, Smith wrote: “President Trump and the Republican Party have ruled in the most partisan, dictatorial way that I’ve ever witnessed. Now they’re asking for Democratic votes without offering anything in return. Why would we vote for that?”
Later that day at 15:31 UTC, he addressed claims about healthcare benefits: “The Republican Party continues to lie about giving ACA benefits to illegal immigrants. They keep lying because they can’t defend the truth.”
At 17:17 UTC, Smith expressed further concerns about government leadership: “President Trump is leading an autocratic takeover of our government. This is not normal. This is not okay. @HopiumChron @SimonWDC”
Smith has served in Congress since succeeding Randy Tate in 1997 and previously was a member of the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1965, he currently resides in Bellevue and holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
