Rep. Adam Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, addressed several national issues in a series of tweets posted on December 12, 2025.
In one post, Smith referenced a recent media appearance, stating, “I spoke with @MSNOWNews yesterday about the Trump administration’s view on the law.” (December 12, 2025).
Later that day, Smith expressed support for local government actions against federal policies regarding housing programs. He wrote, “I stand by King County’s decision to join a lawsuit against the Trump administration after their illegal restrictions of housing and homelessness programs. The Department of Housing and Urban Development wants to strike conditions on the Continuum of Care grant program that” (December 12, 2025).
Addressing religious freedom and intolerance in another tweet, Smith stated, “No religious groups should be ‘destroyed’ in our country. This is hateful, xenophobic, and a disgrace to the American tradition of freedom of religion. I stand with my Muslim neighbors.” (December 12, 2025).
Smith has served as a member of Congress since replacing Randy Tate in 1997 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue at age 57, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
