Rep. Adam Smith, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, has taken to social media to share several updates with his constituents. Born in Washington, D.C., Smith currently resides in Bellevue and has an educational background from Fordham University and the University of Washington.

On July 8, 2025, Smith reminded his followers of an upcoming “Virtual Town Hall tomorrow at 6 p.m. PT”. He invited participants to tune in via a provided link or through his social media platforms.

Later that day, Smith addressed recent actions by the Trump administration, noting that “One week ago, the Trump administration took a blunt ax to Washington public schools as they withheld almost $7 billion that benefit students’ education in our state.” He highlighted specific areas affected by these cuts including funding for after-school care and professional development for staff.

On July 9, 2025, Smith commemorated a historical milestone with a post reflecting on the ratification of the 14th Amendment. He wrote “On this day in 1868, the 14th Amendment was ratified, granting citizenship to formerly enslaved people.” Smith expressed appreciation for those who contributed to this advancement in civil rights.

In addition to his long-standing role in Congress since succeeding Randy Tate in 1997, Smith also served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 until his congressional election.
