Rep. Adam Smith, who has represented Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress since 1997, announced a series of legislative actions and opinions via his official Twitter account on January 8, 2026.
In his first post of the day, Smith highlighted federal funding for his district: “Great news for Washington’s Ninth District. Today, the House of Representatives passed a package that will deliver $6,316,000 in community project funds back to our community in WA-09. These Community Project Funding investments reflect what our communities are asking for — https://t.co/YH6jApK03V” (January 8, 2026).
Later that evening, Smith addressed health care policy and affordability: “I’m voting to extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies, but there’s still more work to do to bring down the cost of health care. https://t.co/nE5VEgrOQo” (January 8, 2026).
Smith also weighed in on a recent incident involving an ICE agent: “The claim that the ICE agent was acting is self-defense is a load of crap. He unlawfully killed an American citizen. https://t.co/1sz0gY4GNN” (January 8, 2026).
Adam Smith has served as the U.S. Representative for Washington’s 9th District since defeating Randy Tate in 1997 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue at age 57, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
