Rep. Adam Smith, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district, has been actively advocating for federal funding to support various projects in his constituency. His recent social media posts highlight his efforts to secure financial backing for educational and infrastructure initiatives.
On June 8, 2025, Rep. Smith announced his advocacy for “$1.5M in federal funds to come to WA-09 to help establish the Congolese Integration Network’s STEM education in South King County.” The program is planned to be based at CIN’s community center in SeaTac and aims to offer basic digital skills, introductory coding classes, and career opportunities.
Two days later, on June 10, 2025, he posted about seeking “$4.5M in federal funds to come to WA-09 to support construction of the Kennydale Lakeline Sanitary Sewer and Water Preservation Project in Renton.” This project intends to replace underwater infrastructure with an upland grinder pump system, which would improve the existing setup.
Later that day, Rep. Smith expressed concerns regarding national security issues by commenting on the “federalization and deployment of the California National Guard over the objections of state and local officials in California.” He warned that this action could lead to a dangerous escalation of tensions in Los Angeles County.
Adam Smith has served Washington’s 9th District since 1997 after replacing Randy Tate. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the Washington State Senate from 1991 until 1997. Born in Washington D.C., Smith resides in Bellevue and holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
