Rep. Adam Smith, currently serving in the U.S. Congress and representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, addressed several issues through his recent tweets.

On June 4, 2025, Smith condemned rising violence around aid distribution sites in Gaza. He stated, “The killing of individuals around humanitarian aid distribution sites is unacceptable. There must be an end to violence in the region and no individual should have to confront violence while seeking desperately.”

Later that day, Smith advocated for $1.5 million in federal funds to be allocated to Washington’s 9th district. The funds would help establish the South King Fire Firefighter PPE CO2 Decontamination Unit in Kent. According to Smith, “The machine would decontaminate clothing and equipment that comes in contact with hazardous materials while firefighters are.”

In another post on June 4, 2025, Smith announced his support for a legislative measure by stating, “Today I voted for the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025”. This act aims to renew funding for drug prevention and treatment programs alongside mental health initiatives and behavioral health care programs.

Adam Smith was born in Washington, D.C., and now resides in Bellevue at age 57. He graduated from Fordham University with a BA in 1987 and earned a JD from the University of Washington in 1990.
