He expressed his desire to provide clarification on some of his comments: “An article came out in the Seattle Times today that quoted me, and I’d like to clarify some of my comments.”

The following day, December 11, 2024, he invited constituents to participate in a Telephone Town Hall scheduled for December 18 at 6 p.m., emphasizing the importance of receiving feedback from those he represents: “Join me next week, Wednesday, December 18 at 6 p.m. for my Telephone Town Hall. Hearing your feedback is a top priority of mine in Congress, so I hope you’ll tune in.”

Later on December 11, Rep. Smith commented on the recent decision by King County to block the merger between Kroger and Albertson’s. He highlighted his previous concerns regarding potential negative impacts on consumers and workers had the merger proceeded: “Great news out of King County yesterday with the block of the Kroger-Albertson’s merger… Consumers and workers will come out ahead because of this decision.”
