Rep. Adam Smith, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district, has been active on social media addressing various issues. Smith, who replaced Randy Tate in 1997 and has served since then, shared several tweets recently covering topics from Pride Month to legislative actions and a recent attack.
On June 1, Rep. Adam Smith expressed his support for the LGBTQ+ community by celebrating Pride Month. In his tweet, he invited others to join him in recognizing the contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals: “Happy Pride Month, Washington. This June, join me in celebrating all the members of the LGBTQ+ community and all they do to make our community better. Thank you to the trailblazers, especially those at the Stonewall Uprising, for leading them towards a path of acceptance.”
Later that day, Smith announced his legislative efforts against former President Trump’s trans troop ban through a new bill named the FIT TO SERVICE ACT. He stated: “Last week, I introduced legislation with several of my colleagues called the FIT TO SERVICE ACT, to thwart Trump’s trans troop ban and continue to protect each and every one of our servicemembers.” The post highlights his commitment to ensuring that all servicemembers are protected.
On June 2, Smith condemned an antisemitic attack that occurred in Boulder. He expressed his disapproval of violence against peaceful protestors: “The antisemitic attack in Boulder today was horrific and condemnable. Hate and violence toward peaceful protestors is inexcusable.” He also wished for a speedy recovery for victims and urged law enforcement for swift justice.
Smith was born in Washington D.C., raised in Bellevue where he currently resides, graduated from Fordham University with a BA in 1987, and earned a JD from the University of Washington in 1990.
