Smith, who has been in Congress since 1997, following his tenure in the Washington State Senate, uses his platform to connect with constituents and address significant national and local concerns.
On April 13, 2025, Rep. Adam Smith extended a festive greeting for Passover to those celebrating in Washington. In his post, Smith encouraged the public to enjoy their time with loved ones. “Happy Passover to all those celebrating in Washington. Enjoy your time with loved ones. Chag Pesach Sameach!”
Later the same day, Smith expressed concern over federal agency cuts attributed to Elon Musk and Donald Trump. He highlighted the critical role of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) especially for the approximately 40,000 people experiencing homelessness in King County. He emphasized that the need for safe and affordable housing remains critical. “As Elon Musk and Donald Trump slash federal agencies, we need @HUDgov to remain open. The 40,000 people in King County who experience homelessness and thousands of others around the country desperately need more safe and affordable housing.”
On April 14, 2025, Smith announced his participation in an amicus brief alongside other Democrats in the State of Washington v. Trump case, defending birthright citizenship. He affirmed that children born in the United States are entitled to citizenship under the Fourteenth Amendment. “I joined an amicus brief with my Democratic colleagues in State of Washington v. Trump in defense of birthright citizenship. Any child born in the country is given citizenship under the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution, period.”
Adam Smith currently lives in Bellevue, Washington. He was born in Washington, D.C. in 1965 and holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
